The Honest Pianist is run by me – Jack. I’m a music graduate. I started playing the piano at the age of 3, and still play nowadays at the ripe old age of 24. While at college, I participated in a number of national and international competitions, including the Brant International Piano Competition in Birmingham, UK, as well as giving recitals all over the UK.
Unfortunately, when I graduated, I realised my passion for playing just wasn’t what it was, and I just wasn’t prepared for the hardships of trying to make a career as a musician. I was fortunate enough to enter the digital marketing space, and now work as an acquisition specialist for a large company in my university town.
When I’m not out and about conducting business, I am usually spending time with my fiancee, playing piano duets, or teaching students. I have about three or four students at any one time, and I find this is helpful for me to keep my mind sharp and maintain my interest in music. I also routinely play concerts – if you want to hear me play, I’ve included a recording I did a few years ago at the bottom of this page.
As I’ve spent many years playing the piano, I’ve also managed to own my fair share of pianos. I’ve had four uprights and four digitals. Currently, my practice instrument is a 1974 Yamaha U1. Wonderful piano in every respect. Because of this, I know the trials and tribulations of buying and maintaining a piano, and I’m in a great place to advise you on what you should do when buying your own.
If you want advice or to ask a question about anything piano-related – just hit me up using the “contact us” page. I’d be more than happy to help out a fellow musician.
Note: this was a few years ago, while I was preparing for a competition. It would take some serious practice to play this again!
